Stinky beetles, shiny beetles, poisonous beetles (if you eat them!) and camouflaged beetles--Jenkins introduces readers to a colorful cast of characters. One of my favorites is an Australian beetle called Beetles of Somerset book longicorn, which has a body that's not quite 4 inches long and antennae that can reach 15 inches or so in length/5(57).

Now that I'm about half-way thru Roses, I am really glad that I read Somerset first. The only reason I'm not giving Somerset 5 stars is that a few incidents that occur, the result/outcome wasn't told.

And the book skips many years. Some chapters start 10 years after the previous chapter/5(). The Beetle Book is written in large-format. Each page details descriptions of the body structure, behavior, defense mechanisms, and other fun facts of a multitude of beetle species.
